The Emmys At Our Age
Jslow and I never tire of watching celebrities preen on red carpets, especially when they are in our advanced age-range and stun us with their beauty and fashion choices. I guess it’s reassuring to see our ages in HD smiling back at us as if to say, “hey, I’m your age too, look at what it looks like.” OK, so we don’t have teams of hair and make-up people to hide every line and highlight every perfection, gorgeous designer gowns sewn onto our bodies to trap and squeeze all of our excess whatever, and loads of Botox and other manner of skin sucking and tightening. But still. Our Emmy’s go to the lovely ladies over 40 who just killed it last night. A few favorites in case you missed it:
Julianne Moore in Raf Simmons’s first collection for Dior.
Edie Falco in Stella McCartney.
Julianna Margulies in Giambattista Valli.
I love to draw the ladies live during the telecast. Here are some of my favorites. It has been said that my pen, like the camera, adds 10 pounds.
I also love seeing the actresses my age and how well preserved they are. Loved Lucy Lui, Edie Falco and Zooey Deschanel’s dresses!!
Your drawings are also pretty amazing!
Thanks so much, Stacy! I was blown away by how great everyone looked. It really is inspiring, since tonight I am going to a very fancy event for a dear friend’s 50th and want to look, well, as good as possible. xoxo
I wanted to like Julianne’s Raf for Dior, but couldn’t help feeling that she was too covered up. Thinking it might be the subject of some best/worst dressed debate. I do agree that the older ladies killed it last night.
I actually like that she was covered up but I know what you mean. Yes, the older ladies crushed the young ones. Not many ghastly gowns, which is not as fun. xoxo
My fave dress was January Jones – Zac Posen. Bold. The hair was a bit too severe, but it was stunning.
Good call, I actually liked her simple/severe hair juxtaposed against the more complicated dress. Gorgeous.
