Did you watch the Golden Globes last night? For me, it’s become a marathon quick-sketch session, as I try to capture the gowns in all their glory live from my TV screen. It’s helped me really see what everyone wears, and curse when my pens don’t move fast enough and I miss something. Or they move too fast.

My pens tended to swerve a lot like a car driven by, well, me fours years ago, but only because I was laughing so hard. Because Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were that funny. And so effortlessly so. One of my favorite jokes was about Matthew McConaughey losing 45 lbs for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, “or what actresses call ‘being in a movie.’”

I was also blown away by how effortlessly beautiful both Tina and Amy looked. Not only did they glow in their gowns, but they glowed in their own skin, both showing the world what it’s like to be over 40, happy, confident and on a stage with a best friend basking in the genuine warmth they feel for each other. When Amy won her Golden Globe for Parks & Rec, Tina’s heartfelt and hilarious, “I love you and there’s a special place in Hell for you!”

They know what works professionally and sartorially. Especially Tina, who instead of wearing gowns by different designers, stuck with the one that worked best, Carolina Herrera, for all three.

To me, it seems like we live in a age where everyone tries so hard to stand out, to be this or that which may or may not come naturally, just to gain more attention or “likes”. We can all learn so much by the Amy and Tina, who know who they are, just as we know who they are, because they are just, well, themselves.

Although your lines made my sketch lines a bit wobbly, thanks Amy and Tina for keeping it real up there.
