Do I Look F(L)AT?
Paula is right. Fashion Week is officially over for Blank Stare, Blink. Neither one of us could imagine the decadence of turning off our lives for a whole 9 days of arrivals, shows, and shopping. As if we would even be invited to that many events. But for our first time, we didn’t do so shabby.
Besides attending the Richard Chai, Noon by Noor, Walter, and Nicolas K shows and presentations, we did try to crash a few others. And, well, that was embarrassing.
For me, being out and about was a nice distraction from the Fashion Wreck I was/am living through. (If you don’t know what that is—read all about it.)
And I absolutely loved getting dressed with my kids for their first day of school, and my first day of fashion week. In our cramped hotel room in Brooklyn, my daughter looked at me and said, “Mom, I don’t think that’s a very good first day outfit.” And my son said in all seriousness, “Mom, I thought you were wearing the flat collection.”
On his suggestion, I changed, and I’m glad that I did, because not only did it get me on elle.com in the NYFW Street Style section, wallsee.com also posted my picture on their site, entering me in a competition with fashionables from around the globe. (Vote, I only have 1 point!)
As I texted my husband telling him that Paula and I weren’t ignored on arrival, he texted back saying the kids were being snapped, too. I assumed he meant by him, but was wrong. Under my son’s picture in the local newspaper, he describes his style as “funny with a sense of humor.” I just might have to copy that. After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Count one more vote for you and your son(shine)!
