Finding My Inner School Girl
TicToc goes the clock. Every morning a race to get up and get ready for school before I wake my kids and do the same for them. They’re up at 6:30. I’m out the door by 7:00am. This leaves little if any time to really think about what I’m going to wear for the day.
Looking at the recent Couture Collections being shown in Paris during my lunch break on style.com, it hit me. I need a uniform. A school uniform. A “I don’t have to think about what I’m going to wear because I wear it every day leaving me more time to think, create, sleep” uniform.
Karl Lagerfeld has his uniform of constricting Edwardian collared shirts, wide ties and fingerless gloves; Giambatista Valli, a dark black sweater and a single strand of pearls. Jackson Pollock wore simple jeans, t-shirt, and boots; Ray Eames (a woman) sported starchy white blouses with trim square-necked jumpers.
Brilliant. They’re brilliant. Me, not so much. But it is sheer brilliance to cut out the noise of noise and get down to the business of the day regardless of what you do. I want to join that club. I’m inspired to find my uniform, now I just need ideas. Off to class — my brain is spinning!
Check out the Couture shows on style.com. Your brain might just spin too. My favorites were Schiaparelli, Giambattista Valli & Chanel. How about Look 33 from Valli’s show? It’s a place to start. Do you think I’d get paint on it?
Where are you at art school? So admirable! Do it while you can, before the physical maladies start coming. : )! Btw, I see your sweet friend Rhianna at DSM all the time. It’s our clubhouse!
